Buying the perfect wedding gift

April 1, 2011 by Candy Wrapper Store

Getting wedding invitations in the mail is one of the most exciting things that can happen. It's always nice to feel appreciated, and being asked to take part in the most important day of a friend's life is a humbling experience. Of course, soon afterwards this gives way to worrying about what to buy the newly-betrothed! Wedding presents are one of those grand thank you gifts that lets you make a statement about how you feel about the couple. Here are a few suggestions to make sure yours really hits its mark.

A coffeemaker is always going to be appreciated. It is guaranteed regular use and a bit different from all the fine china coming the newlywed's way. You can make it into an extra-personalized gift by throwing in a pound or two of your favorite local roast.

A high-quality mixer alone won't make anyone the next Emeril, but it's a wonderful gift that will be sure to please. Kick it up a notch by including a beloved recipe from your own cookbook. This will add that personal flare to really make your present stick out.

Throw an Earth Day party

March 31, 2011 by Candy Wrapper Store

Earth Day is a holiday that is forgotten about all-too-often. With new trends towards energy efficiency and eco-friendliness, however, now's the time to draw attention to mother Earth and her needs. Throw an Earth Day party and you just might open some eyes!

Consider sending electronic invitations to this shindig. You will cut back on paper costs and maybe even save a tree or two. If you enjoy giving yourself little projects you can turn old Christmas and birthday cards into something totally new.

Request that your guests bring one recyclable item as their cost of admission. Set up a small bin at the party's entrance where they can throw their empty jugs or cans. Decorating is simple enough if you stick to natural colors like blue and green. Make sure to recycle your paper products when the party's over!

You can come up with some really fun party favor ideas for an Earth Day party, too. You can find small globe keychains at most party supply stores. If you're feeling industrious you can give away small plants and seedlings placed in used coffee jars and yogurt cups.

Decorating your wedding ceremony aisle

March 31, 2011 by Candy Wrapper Store

You've agonized over the invitations and gone through every shade of every color of the rainbow when coordinating your decorations. Chances are you've got the details of your wedding down pat, but have you thought about dressing up the aisle itself?

Wow your guests before you even make your entrance with a gorgeous floral pattern There are many ways to do this. If you're feeling ornate, ask your florist if they'll create a path of petals for your walk to the altar. A row of daisies in an outdoor ceremony is a cute way to spruce up the aisle, too. You can also go for something a bit simpler by attaching small arrangements to the end of every other row.

If flowers aren't your thing, you can festoon ribbons that match your wedding colors down the aisle. Feeling lucky? Leave the decorating up to your guests! Place small bags of flower petals at the entrance for everyone to take. Encourage people to create their own decorative pattern as they make their way to their seat. It's a unique gift that will let everyone feel like they were a part of the wedding.

Guarantee a smooth reception with a successful seating chart

March 30, 2011 by Candy Wrapper Store

The first thing your guests are going to want to know as they arrive at your reception is where they're sitting and who is at their table. You must conduct the delicate balancing act of having everyone feel comfortable while encouraging strangers to interact with each other. There are a lot of different ways to get people talking. Skip the boring signs on the table and get everyone in a pleasant mood right off the bat!

Even though your invitations requested an RSVP, it's likely some of your guests won't have done so. Avoid setting your seating chart in stone until a few days before the event so you can deal with any last-minute stragglers.

Try and incorporate your wedding's theme into the seating chart itself. For example, if you are having your wedding in the Napa Valley (an ever-popular destination for couples), designate each table with a different wine region, such as Bourdeaux or Riesling.

Assigned seats are a great delivery system for personalized gifts, as well. Leave small bottles of champagne in front of each spot, or add that extra touch with a personalized shot glass!

Take you and your teen back in time with an 80s Sweet 16 party

March 29, 2011 by Candy Wrapper Store

Teenagers are notoriously hard to please. What was cool yesterday might be the lamest thing in the world today! As your daughter starts to approach her 16th birthday, you might be trying to think of a way to throw her a memorable party. Luckily, nostalgia is in right now, and a totally 80s sweet 16 party will go over really well. Plus, it'll allow the adults to feel nostalgic about their own adolescence for an evening!

You want your party invitations to be bright – we're talking hot pink and neon green. Let your guests know it would be, like, rad of them to wear their favorite 80s clothing and make their hair big. Vintage tees are affordable and easy to find, and you can find a mullet wig from any party supply store.

The birthday party favors should include items that were big in the 80s. Things like Pop Rocks, Fun Dip and Bottlecaps will have everyone thinking your party was the bombdigity!

Music is the easiest part. What did you listen to back then – Michael Jackson, Madonna or The Bangles? The list is endless!
