Cost-efficient ways to plan a party

December 16, 2010 by Candy Wrapper Store

Planning a party can be overwhelming – from shopping to decorating to preparing food, hosting a bash can be quite an undertaking. But perhaps the most stressful component to playing hostess may be the expenses that quickly add up.

While those on a tight budget may think they will be unable to plan a fantastic celebration, there are ways to cut costs without sacrificing festiveness or fun.

There is no need to spend money on disposable party supplies that you can only use once. Instead, utilize items that you already own, such as champagne flutes, tumblers and mugs. Don't worry about mismatched pieces – the random assortment will be fun and eclectic!

Cocktails are imperative, but liquor can be pricey. Instead of providing a full bar, offer a signature drink for the night. Sangria is delicious and not too expensive to make, as it is comprised of juice and soda as well as alcohol. Mix a batch before the party and have non-alcoholic drinks on hand as well.

With the money you save, you can treat your guests to some fantastic party favors. Guests will be thrilled to receive personalized lollipops or delicious candy bars, and you'll enjoy entertaining your friends without breaking the bank.

Hosting a potluck housewarming party

November 30, 2010 by Candy Wrapper Store

If you've just moved into a new home, a dinner party is a great way to catch up with friends as you show off your new place. However, these gatherings can be extremely challenging to host. From creating the menu to preparing the meal, many people may be put-off by the amount of responsibility that falls on the host's shoulders.

Potlucks are a great way to enjoy the benefits of a sit-down dinner party without having to do all the work yourself. However, this type of gathering takes a bit of careful planning.

Request that guests RSVP with the dish they are bringing along. If you notice any duplicates, ask one friend to prepare a different item – you don't want a dozen pasta dishes and no dessert! Also, be sensitive to those with different eating habits. If guests are vegan, keep kosher or have food allergies, make sure there is food available that they can enjoy.

While each dish can be served in the container in which it's brought, make sure to have a good amount of serving utensils on hand so that food can be easily doled out.

Set-up folding tables for the potluck items and designate a different area for housewarming gifts so that your dining room table remains uncluttered – remember, you'll need space to eat!

Throw your child a Willy Wonka-inspired birthday party

November 10, 2010 by Candy Wrapper Store

Most children celebrate their birthday with a fun fiesta, and the party planning responsibilities often fall on the parents' shoulders. However, after years of throwing birthday parties, it can be difficult to come up with an original theme that is both creative and easy to execute.

While it may seem complicated at first, kids are sure to enjoy a Willy Wonka theme party. After all, what child wouldn't want to spend an afternoon in a candy factory?

Convert your living room into a makeshift movie theater, and provide a plethora of seating so that every youngster has a place to recline while watching Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

Of course, this won't be an ordinary viewing of the film. Instead, turn it into an interactive experience! As the characters in the movie make their way through the factory and sample various treats, pass around similarly flavored confections so the kids can pretend they are a part of Willy Wonka's world.

Remember not to send guests home empty-handed. Personalized lollipops make great birthday favors, and you may also want to include a souvenir trinket, such as a key chain, so that kids have a memorable keepsake to treasure after they've enjoyed their lollipop.

Throw a birthday party your daughter will never forget!

November 2, 2010 by Candy Wrapper Store

When planning your daughter's birthday, it's common to want to create a bash she'll remember for the rest of her life.

However, settling on a theme and sending out the invitations can be overwhelming. There may be too many options, or you may feel stumped.

To throw your daughter the party of her dreams, try to come up with a unique theme based on her interests.

Does she like water color? Set up a still life in the middle of the room and gather art supplies around the sculpture. Guests can paint their own versions of the arrangement and keep their paintings as the birthday favors.

Is your little girl into cooking? Purchase ingredients for a tasty recipe and allow her and her pals to make sheets of sugar cookies. They'll love using cookie-cutters and frosting the sweet treats.

No matter what theme you choose, be certain that it reflects who your daughter is and she's sure to have a blast.

Host a Thanksgiving party for your friends

November 1, 2010 by Candy Wrapper Store

Halloween has come and gone, which means that the holiday season is now just around the corner. Though the holidays are traditionally spent with family, it's important to give thanks and celebrate with your friends and coworkers as well.

But with the hectic pace of the season, it may be tough to get everyone in the same room long enough for a toast, let alone a meal. To best fit everyone's schedule, consider hosting an early holiday party for your pals before you all disassemble.

A fakes-giving will be fun and festive but still relaxed and casual. If you're hosting, focus on the main dish (the turkey!), and ask guests to bring the traditional sides: mashed potatoes, gravy, scalloped potatoes and stuffing.

For dessert, staples like pumpkin pie are sure to be a hit, but you can also combine sweet treats with adorable party favors.

Thanksgiving favors can include creative options like chocolate bars that boast custom wrappers, printed with the date and a kind message to your friends.

Partygoers will love the fun souvenir, which will make an excellent snack if there are long road trips in their futures.
