Throw a sports-themed birthday bash for your son

February 24, 2011 by Candy Wrapper Store

A sports-themed party is a great way to celebrate your son's birthday. Not only are they easy and inexpensive to put together but the kids will absolutely love it.

This theme really lets you get creative. You can either focus on a specific sport that's in season (if it's a summer birthday, throw a baseball party, football for fall, etc) or do all at once! Making a "ticket" invitation on the computer is simple. The information should include the date, start time (kickoff, first pitch) and location. Finding athletic clip art will be no problem.

You can get your hands on a sports-inspired cake easily as well. Most supermarkets will sell cakes with a variety of athletic images on them, so take your pick! You can order personalized candy wrappers that boast your little one's name as well.

If the party is outside, your job is simple. Just have the kids play tee-ball, touch football or really any activity that will get them running around. If the shindig is indoors, you can have the children watch a sports movie like The Sandlot. A "tailgate" party with Cracker Jacks, nachos and a sub will keep the kids happy and full.

Make your sweetheart’s birthday super sweet with some candy favors

February 23, 2011 by Candy Wrapper Store

Most of us have scores of chances to show how much we care about our loved ones throughout the year. From Valentine's Day to anniversaries, it seems as though there are plenty of occasions to shower our sweethearts with affection.

Of course, those looking to make their significant other feel special shouldn't forget about the importance of a birthday. When it comes down to it, this your partner-in-crime's day to shine, and you want to help them feel like the most beloved person in the world.

First, send out birthday invitations. These can be simple or out-of-sight, depending on his or her overall personality.

Additionally, try to purchase a number of unforgettable decorations. If your honey adores a particular movie or plays a sport, don't hesitate to incorporate it into the décor or use it as a theme.

Finally, stock up on some exciting birthday party favors. Send guests home with an overstuffed goodie bag or even chocolate bars that boast the date of the affair. Your sweetheart – and all the guests – are going to love it.

Will and Kate have sent their wedding invitations!

February 18, 2011 by Candy Wrapper Store

Those who have been religiously following the wedding planning of Prince William and Kate Middleton are in luck, as new information has been released about the upcoming royal nuptials. According to People magazine, the couple has mailed their wedding invitations.

"They're in the process of being sent out," an insider told the news source. The invitations were kept in the office of Lord Chamberlain, the man responsible for sending the cards to the appropriate people.

While most people may not receive an invitation in the mail, they can still celebrate the impending vows of the beautiful young couple. The Nottingham Post reports that Castle Rock Brewery is making a special beer to commemorate the royal wedding, fittingly titled Kiss Me Kate ale. It is set to hit pubs one month before the April 29 ceremony.

"Kiss Me Kate will be elegant, tasteful and British to the core," Castle Rock head brewer Adrian Redgrove told the news outlet. "It'll be brewed to 5 percent, pale in color and we're sure it'll be the ideal way to toast the couple's future happiness. We'll certainly be enjoying it in our celebrations here at the brewery."

Put leftover Valentine’s Day doilies to good use

February 17, 2011 by Candy Wrapper Store

Now that February 14th has passed and the Valentine's Day candy has been consumed, many people may have leftover decorations that they don't know what to do with. Instead of throwing them out or packing them away until next year, why not put them to good use?

According to Real Simple magazine, paper doilies can serve many purposes aside from decorating Valentine's Day cards. If you are preparing to travel, a doily can make transporting your earrings easy. Simply fasten the studs through the small holes in the paper and stack the doily in your suitcase.

However, not everybody is planning on taking a trip, but doilies can also come in handy in the kitchen when decorating a dessert.

"Press a doily flat on top of a round cake and, using a fine-mesh sieve, sprinkle confectioners' sugar liberally over the surface," the publication advises. "Use two hands to carefully remove the doily post-dusting."

Finally, you can use this Valentine's Day decoration for pretty baby shower favors. Simply roll the doily into a cone, secure with tape and fill with some sweet treats.

Jessica Alba is expecting her second child!

February 17, 2011 by Candy Wrapper Store

It looks like it's time for yet another Hollywood star to start shopping for birth announcements – Jessica Alba is pregnant! Alba revealed the news that she and husband Cash Warren are expecting on her Facebook page.

"It's been a while since I've been on FB & I thought I'd drop by to let you all in on some exciting news – Honor is going to be a Big Sister!" Alba wrote on the social networking site. "Cash and I are thrilled and wanted to share the news directly with you so you didn't hear about it somewhere else."

This will be Alba and Warren's second child. The couple welcomed a daughter, Honor Marie Warren, in 2008. Friends and fans of the actress may not be surprised that Alba is with child once again.

"Every day [with Honor] is totally different. The love is deeper every day," Alba told People magazine in 2009. "I'm hoping to definitely have more kids. Whatever happens, I'm not setting a certain number. I think in life you're always surprised and a few more kids are certainly in my future."
